Welcome to “Escape to Sport.” I started this blog initally as a way to express my thoughts on different happenings in the Olympic Movement. Whether it be just updates on developments for a particular Games or news of rulings by the IOC or the CAS impacting on the Olympics, I am interested and use this as a space to analyze what is happening as well as give my opinion.

Recently I have decided to add posts related to women’s soccer. As an avid fan (without many friends following the sport) I was simply looking for a place to express my thoughts and opinions on what is going on in the game.

Enjoy.

So great to find your blog! I’ve loved the Olympics for as long as I can remember, and women’s soccer for a long time now. (My only long-term interests in sports, really.) And here you go and write a blog about just those two subjects. Did you choose the UK because of the 2012 games?

It seems like a lot of bloggers on women’s soccer are grad students (either focusing on the sport or on subjects unrelated) – I wonder if it’s that because people who continue into grad studies are the type that make good bloggers, or if the studies themselves fuel the inquisitive drive as well as create a need for another, more free-form, outlet.

Well thanks! I’ve been a fan of the Games longer than I can remember and really started to follow them in 2000 and I’ve been playing and/or watching women’s soccer since about ’98. Always been a huge sports fan and it just kind of happened that what I fell in love with at school could be used to apply to sport. I’d actually never thought of combining the two until I took an Anthropology of sports class. Since then, it’s basically taken over haha. But I’m OK with that. The blog was really just a way to track my thoughts as I started it when I wasn’t in school and my friends will only entertain my insane ramblings on sports for so long.

Actually, it didn’t even occur to me until after I had applied that I would be just an hour and a half from London during the Games. (Then I did a happy dance.) I chose the school because they are known for their outstanding sports programs in all areas of study.
